Inspired by New Orleans’ artist, Peggy Bishop’s ceramic totem poles that are found decorating street signs throughout the Bayou St. John neighborhood, I decided to make my own Bird House Totem to place across the street from my house.  Although this simple piece does not come close to matching the creativity and professional artwork found in the St. John faubourg, it does add a little flair to my own neck of the woods and has become a conversation piece for the neighbors.  With any luck, it will survive nature’s wrath in the upcoming hurricane season.
