      Your Creation: “Cypress Driftwood”

These pieces of old driftwood were found floating in the Atchafalaya Basin near Lafayette, LA. It is from a “Pond” cypress tree which is native to southern part of North America.  A cypress tree that can reach 150 feet high with a 30 foot diameter trunk. The tree is prized for its wood because it contains natural preservatives and is extremely rot and termite resistant. It was once an historical construction mainstay for Louisiana natives & settlers and was ideal for building the Acadian style homes which still stand today as proof of its durability. These pieces have been cleaned, bleached, dried and polyurethaned to accent the beauty of the natural colors in the wood. Here, these pieces have been cut from a larger piece of driftwood and have been put on display as different accent pieces within a home.
