Your Creation: “Sycamore Dough Bowl”

This wooden bowl was power-carved from a piece of wood cut from the branch of a huge sycamore tree that fell during hurricane Ida in 2021.  The tree was located on historic Esplanade Ave directly in front of the famous “Cresson” house.  The tree was at least 60 years old and 80 feet high and can be seen in the attached old picuture of the home.

These are fast growing trees that are valued for their large colorful leaves and abundant shade that it produces. They are easily identified by its large leaves and thin cream colored bark that peels and sheds every year.  In general, they grow too big for residential properties and are usually found in parks or lining city streets

This piece has been dried, carved and polyurethaned to accent the beauty of the natural colors. This piece was crafted in 2022.
