        Your Creation: “Cypress Dough Bowl”

 

This wooden bowl was power-carved from a piece of Bald Cypress wood cut from a tree that fell during the 2021 hurricane Ida. 

 

The bald cypress tree is native to the US east coast, from Maryland all the way to Florida and as far west as the Mississippi valley.  It can grow 80 feet high and 30 feet wide and live hundreds of years.  These trees also have a root system which can grow “knees”, which rise above the ground as an extension of the root.

 

The tree is prized for its wood because it contains natural preservatives and is extremely rot and termite resistant.  It was once a historical construction mainstay for Louisiana natives & settlers and was ideal for building the Acadian style homes which still stand today as proof of its durability.

 

This piece has been dried, carved and polyurethaned to accent the beauty of the natural colors. This piece was crafted in 2022.
